AWS VDI and EUC, then the file shares behind them

Roadrunner SMB is for teams running Windows desktops on AWS. That includes Amazon WorkSpaces, Citrix on AWS, and other FSLogix-based VDI. The same SMB fabric also serves user shares and corporate file storage. The product is not a WorkSpaces-only file server.

The lead problem is the 30-minute problem. A morning login and reconnect window concentrates metadata and small-file writes into a short period. Size the file service for that window and the rest of the day is over-provisioned. Size it for the quiet hours and the login window is under-provisioned. Predictable login handling and elastic scale are the point. Storage cost is not.

VDI and EUC on AWS

FSLogix profile containers, home directories, and the shares a desktop opens at logon all hit SMB at once. WorkSpaces pools, Citrix session hosts on AWS, and other Windows EUC stacks share that pattern even when the broker is different.

Roadrunner SMB keeps those desktops on Active Directory-integrated SMB, with metadata and file data handled so a login storm does not require a separate file-server cluster for each desktop fleet. Planning figures for Dual-AZ capacity live on the platform sizing page. They are planning guidance, not a performance guarantee.

File shares and Windows modernization

After the desktop fleet, the same namespace can hold departmental shares and corporate file storage. Teams usually arrive here from one of three existing patterns:

Launch the Eval Kit

Subscribe on AWS Marketplace and run the Eval Kit in your own AWS account. No sales conversation is required to start.

Launch Eval Kit

15-20 minutes to the Admin UI; typically about 30 minutes to your first SMB share.

Evaluation use only. Usage charges apply. The Eval Kit automatically uninstalls after 30 days.

Typical default AWS infrastructure is about $1/hour, plus Roadrunner Marketplace usage charges. See pricing.
